Cover for trans/hitios Cevisama Exhibition
2019
Instituto de la Tecnología Cerámica

The design of the construction of this roof has been conceived by the Castellón Ceramic Technology Institute for the CEVISAMA Fair located in Valencia.

The proposed cover is a spatial lattice structure of cables from which different modules and exhibition panels hang. The design consists of a system of cables arranged on two levels anchored to the existing pillars of the Exhibition Centre in Valencia.

The elements of the structure can be categorized into the following:

• A higher level (Level 2) made up of a grid of cables from which the loads hang at the intersection nodes between cables, generating a funicular geometry.

• A lower level (Level 1) composed of a horizontal grid of cables as a brace of the structure.

• Vertical cables that connect both levels and from which the loads of the exhibition elements hang.

Windmill's mission has been to determine an optimal geometry for the different possible load states, taking as reference the roof designs proposed in the years 2017, 2018 and 2019. An iterative method of finding forms is used (Form Finding ) to define a common geometry. In this process, a horizontal cable structure is started and the geometry is optimized after applying the loads with the aim of achieving a structure that works exclusively in the axial position.

In addition to obtaining the final geometry of the roof, the cables have been dimensioned and the necessary calculations have been made to ensure the connections to the existing structure.
