The National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona is a building located in the Plaça del Rei of the city. The building in question dates to its construction date of the year 1960. It is a building with a structure mainly made up of composite beams of variable section and solid concrete slabs and load walls of the same material and, in some cases, of conventional brick factory work. In the basement we find a structure supported on pillars of reinforced concrete.

As part of the proposal for the renovation and architectural improvement of the building, Windmill's work consisted of designing and calculating the different structural actions to be carried out with the aim of conditioning the building to the new requirements demanded by the museum.

Thus, the main activities include the opening of a new vertical communication core formed by a steel sheet ladder and the reinforcement of the deck floor to support the loads of a new machinery. In addition, a new metal gateway has been designed to access the building, which gives continuity to the existing one from the Torre del Pretori.

It is important to highlight the difficulty of the design of the structure due to the uncertainty existing in the existing elements in a building currently in use with these characteristics.
